Celebrating a Surprise: A Family's Gift of Gratitude

Celebrating a Surprise: A Family's Gift of Gratitude

Thursday March 28, 2024

On Tuesday, March 26, 2024, as the sun dipped low over the familiar streets of Sultandabad Gilgit, I found comfort in the weariness of the day melting away, replaced by the warmth of anticipation for home. At 55 years old, my role as a teacher educator often left me immersed in a whirlwind of lessons and responsibilities. Yet, amidst the chaos, there was a serene satisfaction in guiding my students towards enlightenment.

Arriving at my doorstep, I exhaled a sigh of relief, grateful to be back within the embrace of my humble abode. My family, consisting of my elderly parents, my spouse, and our youngest son, awaited my return eagerly, their presence a beacon of comfort in the midst of life's turbulence. As was our tradition, I regaled my elderly parents with tales from the day, their eager ears always thirsty for stories.

Little did I know that this ordinary evening would soon be transformed into a moment of extraordinary joy. A soft ping from my phone interrupted our conversation, drawing my attention away from the stories I shared with my parents. It was a message from my eldest daughter, who had ventured across the seas to the United Kingdom to pursue her own professional endeavours. Her words buzzed with excitement, hinting at an impending surprise. "I've always wanted to gift you something, and today I can. There’s a little gift I've sent for you at the door, please accept." Fascinated yet amazed, I paused to contemplate her message. Perhaps she had arranged for a courier to deliver a token of her affection to my workplace. But when I informed her of my presence at home, her response shattered my assumptions like fragile glass. "Yes, I know that. Just take a deep breath and go to the gate."

Confused but obedient, I gestured my spouse to accompany me as we ventured barefoot into the cool embrace of the evening air. With each step, anticipation swelled within me, the mystery of my daughter's words igniting a spark of excitement.

And there, illuminated by the fading light, stood a perfect white car, a beacon of unexpected delight. My disbelief mingled with joy as I struggled to comprehend the enormity of the moment. Could this magnificent gift truly be meant for me?

Before I could fully grasp the reality of the situation, laughter erupted from behind a camera, capturing my stunned reactions. It was then that my younger child revealed the truth – the gift was from Sheeba, my daughter.

In that passing moment, amidst laughter and tears, I understood the depth of my daughter's love and the limitless possibilities that lay ahead. The greatest gifts, I realized, were not measured in material wealth, but in the boundless love and gratitude that united our family. With hearts brimming with gratitude, my spouse and I embraced our children, revealing in the warmth of their love and the blessings that adorned our lives. Yet, the surprises were far from over.

As the excitement retreated, I turned to find my wife standing beside me, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears, her hands trembling with emotion. In her silent presence, I realized that I was not alone in experiencing this overwhelming moment of joy. Together, we stood in silent closeness, our hearts knotted in an embroidery of love and gratitude.

As the evening unfolded, we gathered with our children, connected across distances on live calls, our hearts light with the joy of unexpected gifts and shared laughter. In those simple moments of connection, I marvelled at the profound beauty of life and love that enveloped us.

For in the end, it was not the grand gestures or material possessions that defined our happiness, but the simple acts of love and connection that enriched our lives beyond measure. As we sat together, surrounded by the warmth of family and the glow of gratitude, I knew that there was no greater gift than the love that bound us together. Shuker Alhamdulillah!

From Hunza Horizons to Global Heights: A Tale of Resilience, Transformation, and Legacy

From Hunza Horizons to Global Heights:

A Tale of Resilience, Transformation, and Legacy

(Darvesh Karim)

The tale of my family resonates with generations marked by resilience and transformation, originating in the scenic embrace of the Hunza Valley. In the heart of those rugged mountains, my grandparents, possessing a simple yet robust physicality, forged their existence as farmers and shepherds, navigating the sprawling landscapes of Shishper and Ulter meadows alongside vast herds of cattle in Hunza Valley. Their lives epitomized the enduring spirit of the land they cultivated and the flocks they tended.

Fast forward to the present, my father, now in his 90s, embodies the legacy of strength and adaptability passed down through the ages. Similar to his forebears, he spent his early years immersed in the laborious tasks of farming and herding in the meadows of Hunza Valley. However, a pivotal shift occurred in his 40s when he courageously redirected his path and delved into the realm of business. Grateful to the Almighty, his enterprise thrived amidst the breath-taking landscape of Karimabad in Hunza.

The transformative journey did not conclude there. Fuelled by the demands of his burgeoning business, my father became a regional traveller, navigating the complexities of commerce with routine journeys to Gilgit and neigh boring cities. Propelled by a vision that transcended his own experiences, he invested in the education of his children, recognizing the transformative power of knowledge.

Under the nurturing guidance of my parents, I emerged as the ever first academically qualified individual in my family, broadening my horizons as I traversed the diverse landscapes of Pakistan all the way from the Hunza Valley to Karachi. My professional journey unfolded in various capacities, each experience contributing to the mosaic of my life. Presently, I find myself contributing to the educational landscape of Gilgit-Baltistan as a teacher educator with a prestigious university.

In a seamless continuation of the forward-thinking mindset instilled by my parents, I too invested in the professional education of my own children. Thanks to the blessings of God Almighty, this investment has transcended national boundaries, propelling my children into the vast realms of international opportunities. My eldest daughter, Sheeba Karim, has emerged as the pioneer in our family by venturing to the UK, opening doors to international opportunities not only for herself but also for her siblings. We express our immense gratitude for this blessing with a heartfelt "Alhamdulillah!"

As I reflect on this journey from the simplicity of the Hunza Valley to the global stage, I am reminded of the enduring strength, adaptability, and vision that have defined my family's narrative. The story, shaped by the hands of hardworking farmers, resilient shepherds, and now, forward-thinking entrepreneurs and educators, stands as a testament to the limitless possibilities that unfold when one generation builds upon the foundation laid by the last. Shuker Alhamdulillah!

Revolutionizing Public Transport: The Shift from Suzuki to Chingchi in Sultanabad

Revolutionizing Public Transport: The Shift from Suzuki to Chingchi in Sultanabad

Darvesh Karim

The current Suzuki service in Daniyore to Sultanabad requires a minimum of 12 passengers for the vehicle to move, which can be inconvenient for local passengers. In contrast, the Chingchi rickshaw service only requires 4 to 6 passengers, making it a more practical option for the residents of Sultanabad.

The switch to the Chingchi service would provide several benefits to the local passengers, including more frequent and convenient transportation options, reduced wait times, and improved accessibility. Given the benefits, it is the need of the hour to replace the current Suzuki service with the Chingchi rickshaw service in order to better serve the transportation needs of the local passengers. Such a switch would not only improve the quality of life for the residents of Sultanabad, but it would also contribute to the sustainability of the transportation system in the area.

In conclusion, the switch from Suzuki service to Chingchi service in Daniyore to Sultanabad is an important step towards a more efficient, convenient, and sustainable transportation system for the local passengers.
